Wave

Wave is a location-based sticker sharing app that allows users to create digital stickers by drawing on photos they’ve taken, and “sticking” them in the location they’re currently at. By doing this, they create a digital grafitti that reflects the culture of the neighborhood they are in, which can be discovered and explored by other users on the app.

Stickers are associated with a tag, which allows users to browse stickers by a shared tag. Wave also broadcast’s a user’s sticker loadout through BLE, and informs the user when someone nearby is broadcasting a sticker with a similar tag.

For Wave, I was in charge of much of the UI and UX design and implementation. I was responsible for creating all of the app’s custom iconography, designed to communicate Wave’s unique, app-specific concepts.

In addition to design, I was responsible for developing many of the features for the app: I created the app’s sticker creation system, which allowed users to crop an image with an arbitrary shape by “drawing” on the image itself; building the BLE layer for sharing and detecting nearby Wave broadcasts; creating many different custom and dynamic layouts; and crafting smooth and natural animations for transitions between views.
