YouTubeGiffer

Randomized YouTube GIF Creator
http://http://twitter.com/yubtubz

The YouTube Giffer bot receives tweets with YouTube links in them and creates animated GIFs from the source video of random length, from a random starting point. The randomized nature of the bot means that you’re never really sure if what you get is going to be good, but I think that sometimes it’s worth holding out for.

Generating a GIF is pretty simple – you just tweet a YouTube link at @yubtubz, and the bot will respond with a GIF created from the video. There are a few kinds of video that the bot can’t yet read (Vevo videos won’t work, ad-protected videos usually don’t either), but it’ll work for the most part.

Getting the bot to accept more links and improving the response time are both on the roadmap for this bot, but I’m not focusing much time on it right now. If you’re interested in creating something similar, I’ve put all the code up for it on Github.
